Dick Agencies was started in 1948 by Dave Dick representing Wawanesa Mutual in Brandon. Dave started out on the second floor of the Reesor Block on Rosser Avenue, above the famous Reesor’s Clock.
Dave was a strongly conservative political thinker and a great debater. His conservative leanings were so strong that when MPIC came to be in 1970, Dave passed up the opportunity to represent them feeling that they would be a passing fad. Seven years passed before Dave sold auto insurance again! Dave retired to the Okanogan in the mid 1980's selling the business to Gordon Martin of Souris. Gordon, a former Wawanesa employee, was given too brief an opportunity in Dick Agencies when he was struck by cancer.
In 1988 the business was taken over by the "Simplot guy and the Home Economist", Greg Hutsal and his sister Jocelyn VanKoughnet. The business remains in their hands today "beside the big license plate" on Rosser Avenue. The office has been expanded and renovated several times in the last decade and is now run by Greg and wife Valerie. Jocelyn has since retired and now resides in the town of Carman.
